Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Composting and Home Gardens

A great way to cut back on the amount of trash that leaves your house is to compost. According to the website eartheasy, composting cuts back 30% of the waste leaving your house. Composting is an easy way of helping the Earth, and your garden. Composting adds rich nutrients to the soil and helps your plants grow better. Also, composting helps plants in gardens grow with a natural fertilizer and is much better for your health and the environment than chemical fertilizers. All that composting takes is a composting bin, table scraps, leaves, and any other decomposable items. Once you layer the decomposable objects, all you need to do is water the compost bin occasionally, give the pile a "turn" to aerate it occasionally, and cover it. If you want even better results, add some worms and dirt to the pile. You can use this compost in your garden, or you can just put it anywhere you want to grow plants. Once you do this, you will have a healthy garden, better environment, and you will feel the satisfaction that comes with the responsibility of helping the Earth.
