Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

There are always solutions to everything. We have several different ways to reuse our items efficiently, but many people don't realize how throwing away our items can negatively impact our Earth. Some ideas I have come up with is, with our clothes, instead of throwing out them, we can pass them down to anybody you know that could have use to it. Even better donate them to people that cannot afford clothes. Another way is to reuse curtains or any fabric to make clothes out of it. Our cups, they can be reused for planting. People can save money for pots and reuse our cups we don't have use for anymore. Everything we own in our household can be used for all kinds of things, we just need to be more opened minded about how we can make a positive impact on the Earth. Just by doing these smalls things.

If you like to sew, it sometimes works to make a new piece of clothing out of an older one. You can also make reusable bags for gifts out of old clothing. I have made gift bags for Christmas gifts, and my family members and friends have reused them each year.

I think there are quite a few ways we can reduce re-use and recycle. COMPOST! This is so important because a lot of families produce a huge amount of trash because they were never educated on recycling or composting. When all of these things go to the dump instead of being re-used and recycled it is just horrible for the environment and will end up sitting in there for years. Another thing people are really not careful about is the amount of things they buy with packaging. Anytime you go to the store and purchase something it is bound to be packaged or covered with something whether it is recyclable or not. One way to prevent this is to buy the same type of item, but maybe just by a different eco-friendly compony. I remember going to visit a dump once on a field trip when I was little to learn about reusing and recycling. One of the things we learned was that even though it is good to recycle and compost it still is not great for the environment. One way to prevent putting so much stuff into these dumps is to compost at home. If this is something that you are able to do  it is a great option because you can use the compost from your food and use it one plants, which also can save some money. Little things such as making your own compost, buying products with less packaging, or even using a reusable water bottle can really help the environment
