It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Reuse Vs. Recycle (Repurpose)
Reuse means to use the same product in its unchanged form while recycle means to treat or process a item to make it suitable to make it usable for something else. One example of how to reuse would be to donate unwanted clothing and have it be reused by another person. Another example of reuse that I practice is to donate blankets and other unwanted fabrics to a ladies group who then turns them into hats for newborn babies leaving the hospital. Packaging material such as cardboard and packaging paper I reuse these for mailing items, storage, and as litter for our cat. Recycling is done consistently at my house. We recycle all of our cans and bottles. These items can then be turned into new products. I recycle the motor oil from all my Sprint Cars and it is reprocessed and used in furnaces for heat or in power plants to make electricity. I also recycle my used tires and in California these are used as "crumb rubber" in asphalt and can be combusted as fuel. Tires are not biodegradable therefore recycling them is very important.
I definitely agree with your ideas on this topic and i think it is important to try to reuse/repurpose materials as much as possible. This is important because while recycling is a very eco-friendly process, it can also take a lot of time and energy. On the other hand, when you reuse something, you are giving it a new purpose and actually using it for something other that what it was originally made to do.
