Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reuse and Repurposing

Everyone as a person can do something to help make the environment a better place. This includes waste. If your going somewhere consistently every day or every week or any time then you might end up being thirsty. If so you might pay for a water bottle when you can just bring your own instead. It not only saves you money, but then the plastic does not get caught up somewhere in the environment. It is important to not only change the environment in good ways with just a water bottle, but also in any other way you can with recycling and reusing and keeping our earth clean.

I definitely agree, Reuse and Repurposing as a cheap and efficient way to help the environment, and it’s not like it’s difficult to do. Something that has been becoming popular is thrifting, which is the act of shopping at a thrift store or flea market where secondhand clothes and other household items are sold at a cheap price. While most people do not thrift because of its environmental impact, thrifting has a huge impact on a person’s carbon footprint. This is because every garment bought secondhand means that one less one is produced which is very important despite the material. The production of clothing is costly to the environment as producing synthetic fibers like polyester requires lots of energy, as well as crude oil like petroleum; byproducts include toxic gasses and chemicals. And also, secondhand clothes are less likely to end up in landfills. Thrifting is so easy to do, especially on a small budget as I like to thrift during my free time.

I also agree that reusing things is very important and would majorly reduce our carbon footprints. Another way to reuse is to donate as well as using things you would normally throw away and use them in crafts. I know that my school takes donations for many things especially in the art department. One of the major things is fabric from seamstresses this eliminates their waste as well as the school's carbon release from shipping and manufacturing of the fabric. Also there are many different diys that you can do with stuff you would normally consider garbage this would also eliminate ate a lot of waste.

Thank you! I believe that we can all make a difference and really impact and make everything better in our environment!

I agree with everything that has been said especially the first part. My family has been using reusable water bottles for as long as i can remember, and I have always been surrounded by people who are big on recycling. As a result of this being a constant in my live i think it's ridiculous when I go somewhere that doesn't require or encourage people to recycle things because it is so good for the environment. If we could have everyone in California recycling things we could potential eliminate the need to have landfills. Luckily Oakland is pretty good about recycling so if we could inspire other cities, counties and states to do this our environment could be so much better.
