It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Harmful Landfill
Items that are thrown out as waste have many toxic substances. These substances are capable of seeping into the soil and groundwater and become hazardous to all life. Leachate is liquid that forms from landfill decomposition that is very toxic, and can pollute both the land and water. Landfill decomposition additionally adds more greenhouse gas to the atmosphere, contributing to global warming. To prevent this toxic landfill, abstaining from throwing trash in waste is very supportive. Alternatives include reusing materials, recycling recyclable material, and using items that is meant to be reused in the first place.

I definitely agree with you on this one. The fact that people litter all the time and dont realize what that actually are doing is wrong.
Jacob, what you are saying reminds me of one of my classes last year where we learned about the effects that e-waste has on the environment. Just like in harmful landfills, after the e-waste is disposed of toxins like lead, mercury and cadmium leach into the soil and water systems of the environment around them. I stated this in one of my other posts but so much of our e-waste is shipped off to other countries for other people to deal with. This is extremely unjust in my opinion. There are people in these countries that make their living off burning this e-waste which is very dangerous because the toxins are very bad for a person's health if inhaled and this adds to the over all air pollution. Instead of just throwing away what we no longer need we must find better ways of repurposing these things so as to protect our environment. The article linked on this post is to a website that finds interesting and creative ways to repurpose our e-waste. Even though this is just a small step, it is a step towards less pollution on our Earth.
