Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Plastic Bags and Single-Use Water Bottles

age-g88

Plastic bags and single-use water bottles are a hugs source of the pollution in our oceans. The bags kill hundreds of sea turtles a year and the water bottles have accumulated into a floating island in the Pacific. The Houston Zoo saw this problem and decided to take action. Two years ago they removed all of their plastic bags, saving an estimated 80,000 plastic bags from entering landfills a year, and recently stopped selling single-use water bottles. Now, as a guest at the zoo, you have two choices: an aluminum reusable water bottle that is prefilled and a JUST Water paper based recyclable bottle. I believe that this is a huge step towards reducing our use of single-use plastic bottles and towards reducing the amount of harmful pollutants in our oceans.

I agree with what you have said. Plastic bags and water bottles are incredibly bad for the environment. Plastic packaging , especially plastic bags are often the main source of landfill waste. Both marine and land animals often mistake the bags as food and they digest them which causes fatal consequences. Also, plastic does not biodegrade, it sits in the landfills and pollute the environment. Research has shown that plastic particles are present in the air at various locations throughout the world and at all major oceans. Plastic is  made from non-renewable resources extracted and processed using energy-intensive techniques which destroy fragile ecosystems. Now, in many parts of the world, plastic packaging and its impact on our environment has been brought to the eyes of many and is now an important discussion topic.
