Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reusing is Key!

The major things I see instantly being recycled is glass bottles and paper and plastic grocery bags. From Snapple bottles to cooking sauce bottles, people always throw the glass bottles away. A few ways you can extend their usage is by reusing them as water bottles, food containers, or even turning them into DIY flower vases. The possibilities are endless! With plastic and paper bags, the simply can be used as in house "trash cans" or "recycle bins".

I really like your idea of during old glass or plastic water bottles into flower vases! In my personal experience, reusing plastic water bottles is a lot harder than reusing plastic food containers, but I think that everyone should try to make more use out of their plastic items before recycling them. For instance, my family reuses sour cream containers for leftovers because the plastic is pretty durable. It's not aesthetically very pleasing, but it gets the job done and it helps lengthen the life of the plastic container. Imagine how much less plastic there would be if instead of throwing away every single plastic bottle after using it, they repurposed it for something else!

I think both of your examples of reusing are fantastic and really ingenious. My family and I too reuse many of our plastic water bottles many times before we throw them out. We also reuse many plastic containers such as a butter container to hold foods in it in the refrigerator. My family and I too reuse other things as well such as clothing, My family never throws out clothing ever. For example my oldest sisters clothes always goes to my youngest sister in order to pay for less clothing and to not let them go to waste. When they get to big for their clothes we always donate the apparel to our church in order for children to who do not have money to have cloth to put on their backs to receive them. According to Mac-Recycling recycling and reusing cloths can help the environment in many ways. First of all it keeps clothing from ever entering landfills. this is great because it takes years for shirts and plants for example to decompose. Also if we keep reusing cloth ing we will preserve natural resources and raw materials, and as a result, less transportation will be used and less pollution will be caused because of that.

All your ideas for reusing products are brilliant.  Reusing different objects for other purposes is very beneficial to our environment as it prevents waste buildup.  As mentioned, glass bottles can become vases, and they can also be turned into pencil holders for your desk.  My parents will also mix used coffee grinds into their gardening soil.  This acts as a fertilizer.  The next step to implementing reusing in our society is to spread the message.  If we convey reusing as a fun project to do with friends and family, our generation will be more encouraged to do so.  Create flower vases and pencil holders out of glass bottles with your friends, and make it a DIY project.  Another way to spread the message of repurposing is to state the many benefits.  For example, mixing used coffee grinds into your soil enhances the soil to allow for better plant growth.  With repurposing objects that we would normally throw away or recycle, we are one step closer to a cleaner environment.

All of the ideas stated above are great ways to reuse and recycle items. In my family we reuse glass bottles to make storage containers. Also, whenever we need paper for a grocery list, we use old magazines or newspapers. In addition, plastic bags can make really cute purses if you weave them together.

All these eco-friendly ideas are so greAT. In my family we reuse mason jars for drinking glasses and storage containers, And egg cartons for small strawberry farms.

I am definitely going to use these ideas. Thanks so much! So many people think the recycling is the best way to stop climate change, but theres a reason it goes reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling is a last resort!
