Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reuse and Repurpose

Reusing things is a very important action that everyone should be doing. Like after using a jar of tomato sauce, you could reuse it for a different purpose, like storing food or items. Instead of buying bottled water every day, you could buy a water bottle and just fill it up every day. Doing so would be greener for the environment, and tap water in some countries like Canada is actually cleaner then water from bottled water. Everyone could start using the cotton shopping bags when you go grocery shopping instead of buying the plastic ones. Our world could be so much greener if we do actions like these and always reuse and repurpose.

Daria,
These are some great suggestions of ways to reduce waste in our landfills and oceans. You mentioned using cotton grocery bags instead of plastic, which is a great idea. My family and I have been bringing our own bags to the grocery store for years now, and always try our best not to use the store plastic ones. These bags often end up in the ocean, and can be confused for sea life such as jellyfish. Sea Turtles mistake this plastic for food, and can die if they consume the bag. It causes blockages in their digestive system and is most often fatal. These bags are also petroleum-based, which means they will not biodegrade. But this can all be helped. By doing things such as you mentioned, and bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, we can help save wildlife.
