Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Repurpose

Although recycling is very important, it stills puts CO2 in the atmosphere, not as much as if you were to throw it away but still some. But small things tend to become bigger, so to prevent that we could repurpose them. Example: using egg cartons as pot plants, making a old shirt into a pillow, and using containers as a way to store things.

I have a system I usually go by before i throw something away. The 5 Rs, I ask myself if I can Reuse, Repurpose, Reduce, Refuse or Recycle before I throw the item away.

I definitely agree with you. Even though recycling is a better option than throwing stuff away, the Co2 of everybody recycling builds up fast. If we all tried to reuse old items like you said, we can help slow down Global Warming that is a large threat in today's world.

I agree that we should be reusing our disposable items we get from stores and restaurants. I especially think that we should be reusing many of the plastic bags and containers that we normally just throw away after we use them once. According to https://timeforchange.org/plastic-bags- … emissions, every 1 kg of plastic has a carbon footprint of 6 kg of CO2, and about 40% of plastic is disposed within one year. If we reused plastic bags and containers so that we would be only buying half as much as we used to that would help the world a lot even if we threw those plastic items away within a year. If we just got everyone to reuse plastic containers 1-2 more times than they normally do, we could decrease the addition of CO2 into the atmosphere greatly and help the world heal from our actions instead of making things worse.

I also agree, we should be trying to limit our carbon footprint as much as possible and one way of doing that is recycling. I believe, recycling is one of the easiest ways to limit our carbon footprint. Ben, I agree with you because as you said, if we do not reuse plastic for example then that could build up and emit CO2 causing global warming. Also, reusing old items for new purposes is also a good idea. For example, using old plastic water bottles by refilling them with water, is a good idea. Not only does it limit waste and Carbon emission it also saves money. Ethan, I also agree with many of your points on reusing plastic. I especially agree with the idea of reused plastic bags. Your idea sounds like a terrific idea because again, not only does it limit carbon emission but it also saves money. I believe that in order to limit our carbon footprint, it all starts with recycling and reusing, or as Richard put it, repurposing.

I agree with all of you, I think reusing anything you can is a good idea. Even though recycling plastics and cans is still better than throwing them in the trash, repurposing all of that emits lots of co2 into the atmosphere, even though they are being repurposed. So reusing things like plastic bags or plastic containers is a good idea to reduce the amount of c02 emission. I also think we should avoid plastic straws because we use them once then just throw them away. They're terrible for the environment so getting reusable straws would be a great idea.

I agree with you, I think that we should limit the amount of carbon by reusing and recycling things. If we reuse plastic bags,  bottles and other plastic objects we can decrease the amount of co2 we emit into the atmosphere. I also think that if we do not reuse plastic objects we will, all of that could build and causing global warming. But by reusing this we can help slow down global warming.
