Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle

There are so many different ways that we can extend the "lives" of the items that we buy and use, and ways that we can reduce our usage of these pollutants. A great way to start to learn how to reduce our Carbon Footprint is to follow the three R's: Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. For example, if you REUSE a to go container that you got from a restaurant the other night, you can use the container for other things, eliminating the need for another container usage. A great way to REDUCE your Carbon Footprint is to notice how much plastic and other items that you throw away every day, and be wary about how much of that goes into the landfill every year. And finally, RECYCLING is the ultimate goal that will help reduce our Carbon Footprints. Before you throw a piece of garbage out, think, can I Reuse, Reduce, or Recycle this?

Hello Olivia, I think this an excellent idea to extend the "lives" of the items that we use and buy. An article was written by the US EPA that also gave great ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Some ways are to donate or recycle old electronics, compost your food scraps at home, and donating your old clothes. It may also be beneficial to looks for goods that come with less packaging to reduce waste. As a community, if we start doing the tasks you mentioned along with some that came from the website we can drastically reduce our carbon footprint and increase the "live" of the products we use and buy.  On top of doing these things, it would be good to share these ideas with others. To share the information with others people could join eco-clubs at schools, set up informational booths, and network through social media. My question to you is... Do you think it would be beneficial for every school to practice recycling and composting? And if so why?
