Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

Donating is better than throwing

marcoventurato

Personally I hate waste, in fact when I can, I try not to throw away anything. For example, clothes that do not go to my cousins anymore and if they do not want them I give them to charity associations. Once a year when we do cleaning and games or in general all that we do not need anymore we give it to the poor.
And I think a lot of people in place of throwing everything in a landfill could give the objects that it no longer uses to the neediest people.

I agree. This is what my family usually does. Donating will both help the environment and the people.

I also agree. It helps people that are in need of clothes and it is also good for the environment.

I completely agree. My family always donate clothes to good causes, whenever we have clothes we don't need anymore. This is a great idea because not only does it help the people in need, but it would help reduce waste.

I totally agree with you. Twice a year my family gathers all the clothes we no longer wear and take them to charity sites. It’s a great way to help others who are less fortunate while also keeping the environment healthier.

I most definitely agree. In my family we often donate as many things as we can. Like old clothes and shoes that can't fit us anymore. We also donate old toys to my friends' little siblings or other children. We like to find many ways to donate items instead of throwing them away. It is important that people donate things to help the environment. Donating is also a good way for other people to reuse what you cannot.

I definitely agree with this. It is very important to support a local thrift store, especially the ones that donate to a good cause, rather than wasting clothes by throwing them away.

I completely agree with this! Waste is one of the biggest problems in our world right now, and honestly, it is somewhat easy to avoid. I think when people think of donating their possessions, they immediately think of old and gross items, like dirty donated clothes or furniture.  One thing that can delete some of this stigma is the heightened interest in preserving our earth amongst teens, where one of the most effective factors of this interest is thrifting unused clothes. When people realize that donating their old and unused items could prevent a lot of the waste problem in our world, I think that we will be set on a far more progressive path.

This is really important. Did you know that it takes around 1,800 gallons of water to make just one pair of jeans? Buying used clothing and donating your old clothes can have massive impacts of the environment and those around you.

Wo that is such a good point! In addition, it takes 713 gallons of water to make just one shirt. You can help conserve water by going to a thrift store and buying clothing.
