Reuse & Repurpose

It's very tempting to throw things away or even drop them in a recycling bin when we are done with them. Is there a better way?

Share your ideas for extending the “lives” of the items that we buy and use, and their packaging as well!

The Second R: Reuse, the Economic Benefits of Reusing

You may believe that if you continually buy more plastic it is impossible to get out the habit of doing so and you ultimately cannot start to recycle. This is simply not the case. There are plenty of resources and ways you can get out of the habit that is hurting your bank account and the environment. If you have already been buying paper bags every time you go to the grocery store, you can reuse those and stop paying the ten cents, you are also giving those bags a purpose instead of throwing them away and risking the chance of them not being repurposed. If you eventually run out of those bags, there are many green options. The grocery store usually offers the option of buying a reusable bag that is more sturdy and can last longer than paper bags. This is true for many other things, like plastic water bottles, though you should plan on getting a reusable bottle, if you have plastic ones, reuse that as many times as you can before throwing it out (in the recycling). The concept of reusing the old instead of buying the new will always help you in penny-pinching situations,  but will overall help the environment every time.

I agree with you, I always recycle glass and plastic. I like walking so I rarely use public transport. I am concert the environment.

I have the same opinion! Every time I go shopping I always use the same bag, it's a more resistant bag, because plastic bags often break when you buy a lot of stuff. I think that throwing a plastic bag into the trash every time that I buy something is useless and is not good for the environment. I also use the same plastic bottle for many times and then I recycle it.
