Are there aspects of your daily life that you know contribute to your carbon footprint but you are unwilling to compromise to change them? In other words, what about your life is “off the table” when it comes to carbon emissions? It's OK to admit it- we all have these cherished behaviors!
Off the Table? >
Driving= Off the table
The transportation section of the carbon footprint was the highest and it way way over the average carbon footprint. The reason it is so high is because both me and my sibling have a lot of activities and ever since I have gotten my license I have been doing a lot of driving to and from my activities along with my siblings. Driving is essential for me and this is why it is the part of my carbon footprint that is off the table. I have to drive to and from school everyday, take my sister to her practices. Without a car I wouldn't be able to do any of the activities that are such a big part of my life. Not only do i have to travel to and from these activities but sometimes I travel with the teams that I am apart of and that also causes my carbon footprint to be higher in the transportation area as well. There are thing that I can do to limit my driving carbon footprint. I can carpool to my events as much as possible.
I definitely can understand where you're coming from when you say that driving is off the table. My father alone drives almost 75 km to work every morning. In addition, the majority of my extracurricular activities are too far to walk to and would be exceedingly time consuming to drive to. One thing that I want to note is that although "giving up" driving overall is unreasonable, there are some long-term changes that can be made. For instance, my family got a hybrid car a couple years ago. Although this was a sizable investment for us, it has made a huge impact on our impact on the environment. I think that families with over a certain amount of driving should seriously consider investing in hybrid or electric cars as a way to reduce their footprint.
