Organic Milk is not as Eco-Friendly as You May Think

AlyD

Milk is one of the most basic and well-known food items in America, many people throughout the country drink milk. Nowadays, non-homogenized milk is acknowledged as the “better choice,” but what if it isn’t as eco-friendly as everyone seems to think? While the carbon footprint is reduced by milk being organic, cows give off so much CO2 that it negates any positive effects on its carbon footprint. The average CO2 emission from one cow is around 5,300 L. If the cows are producing less milk, or there are less milk cows, the CO2 emissions lessen. If we can get the demand for milk to lower, less milk cows would be raised and their CO2 emissions would decrease. Source: http://www.progressivedairy.com/index.p … Itemid=121
