All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Back to Basics
Transportation left the biggest impact on my carbon footprint. Many can cut this down by carpooling and walking. I drive around 85 miles(136 kilometers) everyday during the school week. This is mostly from to school (mines and my brother’s), and soccer practice. Both of these are places I could organize a carpool to, but I have not, yet. The increase in human’s carbon emission over the years has raised the earth’s average temperature. This will contribute to raised sea levels from melting ice caps, increased number of droughts and heat waves, and extinction of many animals due to habitat loss/changes.
Another way I know I can help is by taking care of my garden I have an apple tree that would grow a lot more apples if taken care of properly. Many can also collect bottles and cans to recycle. It can be challenging to start or stick with I know, but it is worth putting in the effort. Recycling does a lot to help the environment. Recycling materials means tons less waste in our streets, oceans, and landfills. Also using recycled materials means using fewer natu ral resources. Natural resources are not endless. Using recycled materials when ever you can leads to a more sustainable planet. It also conserves energy. The material is already processed and therefore easier to build from than scratch.
