Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

For a better world

I think the Ecologycal Footprint experience, that the Standford Uniersity has given me, has been revealing for me because thanks to it I have realized how much I pollute. I also have learnt about differents things that contaminate such as the transports I take, the food I eat or the waste of materials at home.
I feel that people should be aware about this because it can be important to look after the world and make it better.

Yes, i agree lola97. Doing this experiment that Stanford gave us, really opened up my eyes to see how much just a single person does that adds to pollution. The carbon footprint showed me what I could do to improve factors in my lifestyle to make things better for the environment and my family. If we took this experiment a step forward and got a bigger group of people involved, it could lead to possible solutions for major problems!
Some of the things that i have been trying to notice and fix about my carbon footprint is the amount of electricity used in my house. I try to be more aware whenever I leave a room, and make sure that I turn the lights off when I'm done. I also look for other sources in my house that could substitute the lights in my room. Simple things like this could save lots of energy easily and efficiently.

I agree with you on how this website has shown how much carbon waste my family, peers, and I emit every year. It's astonishing to think that all the little things I do can affect my future self or future family. It's also interesting to see how to fix the issues. The website is a fantastic idea and great learning tool. I think that after being a part of this group that I should be able to shorten my carbon footprint.

I've noticed that when just playing with light switches, such as turning them on and off to irritate my brother affects the world a lot more than expected. Before reading up on the carbon footprint I was always thinking to myself, I'm only wasting a cup of water or 1 more hour with the light on won't affect anything. Now though, I realize that even if it's a little bit that I'm doing it all adds up to a lot of waste. I too feel that more people should be apart of this website so they can learn and be more aware about our world and how they are affecting it. Personally I plan on doing better to help the environment.

I agree, the global carbon footprint activity can make us realize how much of an effect we have in our society. If we were to pay attention to the actions we take and the decisions that we make, we could drastically change our footprint and therefore improve our pollution world-wide. We need to make smart decisions that not only affect us positively, but our society positively as well.

I agree that this project has allowed me to understand how big my carbon footprint is. I agree with you, pbouzos21, that it would be great to get a lot more people to do this project and learn how big their carbon footprint is. It is a real eye opener, and I am glad I participated because now I know how I can help.
I noticed my carbon output from transportation is much greater than the average. Over the year my family has gone on several trips to visit families and tour colleges, which was probably a huge factor. I can travel less and drive my car less often and bike or walk instead. Traveling so much is not the norm for my family though, so I would be curious to see if my carbon footprint would decrease a lot if I entered in how many flights I take per year on average.
From this project, I have learned how much of a part I take in our world's carbon pollution and how I can change my living habits to decrease pollution and improve the world for the rest of society. To significantly decrease our world's carbon footprint though, we need everyone to contribute. That's why p eople should do this project and learn about how they can decrease their carbon footprint. It's going to take everyone to improve our world's pollution.
