Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Gonna make a change for once in my life

I think some of the easiest ways to change my carbon footprint in my life is not just to carpool but to walk more.  Ever since I started driving I think that my legs are broken and I just drive to every place that I am going but places that are not far from me I should definitely walk.  Also my carbon footprint was so high because of what I purchase, and consume. I eat food and then do not finish certain things but I should because some food produces methane and carbon emissions.  I guess my mom was right always telling me to eat all my food.  I should start using a compost at my own home and not just at school.  Not only just get a compost but use the bens correctly at home, school, and other places.  One of the coolest things that I did learn I could do was reduce my junk mail and save the environment.  Junk mail produces greenhouse gas emissions but luckily there is a non-profit organization that removes your name from these lists to save emissions.  I know that all of these are achievable but the challenge is will I really do these or just sit back and keep doing wha t I usually do.  I think if my parents worked with me and learned about what they could do to help reduce their carbon footprints it would help me significantly.

Hi Navah – these are all great goals. perhaps the best approach is to take one thing at a time.

Perhaps you could consider your new perspective an opportunity to improve rather than having guilt about your past/current actions.

If we all start taking steps in a better direction, it doesn't matter what we did before (how “good” or “bad” we have been), that will definitively be a change for the better, across the board.

Hi Navah! These are all great ideas! I especially love the idea of reducing junk mail. I never would have thought of that but now that I think about it, my family gets a ton of junk mail that we don't want or need. For example, since we have started applying to colleges I have noticed that I get pamphlets and brochures all the time that I never even look at. This website also has tons of other great ideas to help reduce paper waste: https://www.rethinkrecycling.com/busine … fice-paper
