Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Plastiglomerate

grahameb

I have always been interested in ocean and beach pollution, so I was researching what new forms of pollution have occurred.  I was reading an article from the Huffington Post (link is down below) about a new form of pollution: plastiglomerate.   Plastiglomerate is a newly identified stone that is formed when natural materials such as shells, sand, wood, coral, and basaltic lava fragments fuse together with melted plastic trash.  Researchers say this material may become a permanent material found in places such as beaches.  If it is not permanent, then it will last for a very long time.  This material shows that people are polluting the Earth, especially plastics.  If we stopped polluting beach areas, materials like plastiglomerate wouldn’t be created and the Earth will be a lot cleaner.  We can help the formation of plastiglomerate and similar materials through beach cleanups and trying to use less plastic items.  So next time, think twice before you throw your plastic bag into the sand.
