Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Ways you can save electricity at home!

brandonb-2

It's indisputable that many homes in America are using more energy than they need. This is not only a waste of electricity, but a waste of money as well. We can start off with obvious ones like turning off the lights when you leave a room, or taking short showers instead of baths (if you have electric heaters) These are all great ways to conserve, but there are also many ways to save electricity that you might not have heard of.

For example, regularly cleaning out the dryer lint every load will improve efficiency. You may have also heard about unplugging your phone from the charger when it's fully charged, but have you thought much about unplugging your charger from the outlet? Also, most people use their coffee makers once every morning for obvious reasons, but during the rest of the day, it should be turned off. Unplugging should be applied to all tech that isn't in use for most of the day like video game consoles and electronics of that nature. Also, if you have a pool, consider getting a pool cover so you can run the cleaning pumps less.

There are many ways  people can save energy and money. Most are just too lazy to do them. It's understandable some things are unavoidable, but anyone and everyone is able to conserve energy in their household. Just imagine, if everyone made efforts to conserve, energy costs would be lower, and power plant emissions would be cut down drastically.

I agree with your idea. Many people are simply to lazy to turn things off during the day. If everybody cold turn off one light a day tons of energy would be saved.
