All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Changing My Ways
To help reduce my transportation footprint I am ready to start walking and biking to my friends' houses instead of riding in a car. In addition, when my friends and I go out, we almost always each take our own cars, and a lot of carbon emission could be eliminated if we carpooled to wherever we're going. To help lessen my food footprint I could cut down on meat and learn to eat more vegetables and organic foods. Because my home footprint is so high mostly due to my heater, I will use more blankets and less of the heater to keep warm in the winter and cold months. My purchases footprint would be significantly reduced if I started taking reusable bags with me whenever I go shopping for anything from groceries to new clothes.
All of these things are fairly simple for me to do, but the challenge will be convincing my family. They may not be as willing to give up these things as I am, but I think once I show them my carbon footprint, they'll come around. If we all support each other in these new ideas and behaviors, we will succeed. It would be helpful if my friends and the rest of our extended family offered us support and maybe they'd start trying to reduce their carbon footprint too!
