All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Reduce the carbon footprint of your LIFE
I know reducing your carbon footprint seems like a lot of work and effort, but I promise you it won't feel like it once you're actually doing it.
I can't reduce how much I travel because of my commitment to a club and I'm sure y'all don't really have a say on if your family will take a trip or not, but we can reduce our carbon footprints in many other ways. First of all, reduce, reuse, and recycle. This may not seem that big and is said quite a lot, but it is still a great method to reduce your footprint. Second, recycle your old electronic devices. I still have my very first phone in my nightstand and I'm pretty sure a lot of us still have our first phones somewhere in our houses. I'm also pretty sure none of us ever use them anymore. To reduce your footprint, you can easily just sell your old phone and other electronics to YouRenew.com. And yes, I said sell. In other words, you will be getting paid for going green. Third, stop your junk mail. Fourth, buy locally if possible. A 5-pound package shipped by air across the country creates 12 pounds of carbon dioxide. Fifth, eat less meat. If you’re not a vegetarian, just increase the number of vegetarian meals you eat each week by one or two. Lastly, don't waste food. All the food that gets tossed produces methane in landfills as well as carbon emissions from transporting wasted food. Once again, these are simple ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Instead of throwing your plastic bottle and papers from school away, choose the bin right next to the trash can and recycle. Also, instead of driving across Houston for groceries, simply go to the market close to where you live. My mom does that and it's so much faster. In all honesty, these tasks are not that challenging. We just have to remember these tasks and make them become habits.
