All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Reducing Your Own Carbon Footprint
Recently, my class and I calculated our carbon footprint and we were asked to find a way that we could reduce them. I chose to take cold showers for a week, which kept me from using my water heater as much. This shows how simple acts in your everyday life can help the planet and everyone around you, such as planting a garden or trees, carpooling to school every day, or even conserving water in your own home.
The author of an article published by ABC News, http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/TenWay … d=2049304, mentioned that by turning her heater two degrees down and turning the air conditioning two degrees up, she saved 2000 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the air.
Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to waste less. The average person wastes 2.6 pounds of food every day. There are simple solutions to fix this problem. Recycling is a great way to save waste. People often underestimate recycling and what it can do for us and our planet. Just recycling that one piece of paper or that one plastic bottle can make a big difference. Recycling helps our environment in 5 ways:
1. Recycling helps minimize pollution
2. Recycling helps preserve our natural resources.
3. Recycling gives green jobs.
4. Recycling helps create awareness.
5. Recycling saves expenses and resources.
