All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
What do you think about direct action?
A student in Bellingham WA USA chained herself to the anchor of a oil exploration vessel that is supporting a plan to possibly drill for oil in pristine and potentially dangerous waters of Alaska. Activists and environmentalists are worried about a possible spill there, and scientists have recently calculated that if oil in places like Alaskan waters are fully exploited, it will be impossible to avoid major impacts of climate change.

This student from Bellingham -Debra D'Angelo- undertook an illegal action (trespassing on the boat) in order to make a point.

What are your thoughts? Is this a legitimate and effective way to raise awareness about climate change, or do you think this student went too far?
As much as I'd like to see peaceful protests, I think that in the end this might be necessary to do in order to make people aware what the greed of many goverments and corporations is doing. I truly hope it doesn't come to that, but if it does I'll definetly join the movement since it might be the only logical thing to do. So to sum it up, she didn't go to far, they were taking a big risk and she stopped them.
