Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Condensed writing could save trees

One small way I think we can help to save trees and  is to try to write smaller and more condensed as well as use recycled paper. This way we can be less wasteful and be more eco friendly. Pretty much anyone can do this and help the trees. That way we don't have to keep buying new notebooks and wasting more paper. We can be resourceful and make the best of what we have available. I also think using recycled paper is environmentally friendly as well and will have many of the same benefits

but we also have to think about price, many things that are recylced can be more expensive due to their extra processing. with that many school districts are underfunded. As much as your idea is great a lot of other things would have to change in addition a lot of students do naturally have large handwriting and can't fit as much on a page; a good addition is if school districts change the average font to something smaller than 12 point to fit more words on the page or increasing margins

I agree but writing smaller will only help a little bit...There is actually paper made out of cotton which is more eco friendly and actually lasts longer than paper made out of trees. Also cotton paper isn't bleached at all which is much more beneficial and better for the environment.

Text is on average 11 point font because that strikes a good balance with legibility for all. Text  will not be able to be small enough to make a difference. Using recycled paper is a good idea though. I would like to see it in more books

Additionally, printing/writing on both sides of the paper is something many people overlook as well as teachers especially, but adds up quickly!

I think using computers to keep all of our documents digitally would be a good way to safe lots of trees. This way we don't have to cut down so many trees to make paper for writing and also even if we do need to print something out the front size of typing it on a computer is probably much smaller than your handwriting therefor saving space and trees.
