Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

We all say that we need to save the planet, reduce the level of CO2, but what we are doing for this?! Naturally, we can not perform global actions, but if everyone does something to the extent of its capabilities, it can turn a great overall result.
I believe that every school should be containers for waste sorting. In order to save our forests, we can take waste paper, for further processing. Less eating fast food as a huge amount of CO2 released during its preparation.
And remember, a little help does not happen!

I totally agree. We all seem to be able to "talk the talk," but no one has really started "walking the walk." The world will not change and reach its full potential until each and every one of us does as a collective unit. I think that the most effective way of achieving this goal is by reducing gas emissions. Carpooling, walking, and catching the bus are all ways to save gas, which will eventually reduce the level of CO2. People across the world are suffering from droughts, and it is because we overuse and squander with water like its a renewable source. The most effective way to reduce water use and prevent drought is to reduce shower length.

I agree as well, if everyone just helps a little bit, we may create a chain reaction to lower the CO2 levels.

I am willing to change to help with the climate changes that Earth is dealing with. I can defiantly cut back things in my house. That was the highest on my carbon footprint. I'm not sure what challenges will come with changing thing in my home.

I am willing to change to help benefit the environment. One example would be waking up an hour earlier to carpool with my dad. “Carpooling Helps the Environment Carpooling cuts down on the number of cars and vehicle son the road. Fewer cars means there is less carbon and other gasses and pollution getting into the air. This protects the environment by keeping the air, water, and land cleaner.” Since my dad always gets stuck in traffic on the way, this increases the car’s carbon emissions. This is because the car is running while it is not moving at a fast pace. However, if I wake up early he will be able to drive to work with less traffic, cutting the carbon emissions of his car.

I think I am ready to help the environment more too. I think to help I could get out of some bad habits I have and other people all around the world have. The first example is using more electricity then needed for everyone's day to day life. Another bad habit is leaving water on when I am not using it which wastes the water completely. For a final thing I can improve on for a more sustainable world could be the driving around when not necessary, I live close to school so honestly sometimes I can walk home and get more into the habit of using cars the less so I can stop polluting the humans but also everything on Earth that is living.

I think it is time for action in the world for anything to make this environment or world better. Make a change.

There are many things that my family and I use that enable us to have a large carbon footprint. Some things we can work on are taking less flights, using less water, and driving less. We take a lot of far trips, so we always fly. We need to stop taking so many planes to help our carbon footprint. We also use a lot of water because of showers, laundry, etc. We need to cut down on our long showers. Finally, we drive everywhere and most of it is nearby. So, we should stop driving everywhere and start walking and biking more.

There are a lot of things we do in my house to help the environment. For example, we recycle as much as we can, and we try to reuse as much as we possible. Along with this we don’t eat eggs or drink milk. I learned that how much i travelled this year, really affected my carbon footprint, along with how helpful carpooling is. Carpooling really saves energy and helps the environment. Also the packaging you use, we keep an eye out for products that have a lot of plastic packaging, because that creates unnecessary waste.

I know I can change more than I think, as well as everyone else, as long as we are committed. I realized I had a high carbon footprint from my transportation and traveling, both internationally and domestically. In the future, I know I can walk, bike, and take more public transportation. Even though it may not seem like doing much, I know every little bit helps. I also know I can pay more attention to what I’m eating and where it comes from to benefit both our environment and the local farmers and growers. When I’m going shopping, I can pay more attention to how the products are packaged and how much of the packaging is truly needed. I don’t exactly feel a lot of effects of carbon dioxide excess and global warming, beyond drought, wildfires, and increasingly higher temperatures, but I do know that people on the other side of the world are and will be at risk to the harsh effects of global warming. Everything in my mind and body I can control can change and help conserve our world.

Before I calculated my footprint I did not believe that my carbon footprint would be so high. My family has always been very conservative with how we did everything. I was shocked when I saw how high my carbon footprint is. I decided that I wanted to try and cut down on the amount of carbon that I put out. After searching the internet for a good source, I found a website called Carbon Fund. It has many tips on how to reduce your carbon footprint in many different areas. My family's main carbon emission is transportation. Carbon Fund states, "Studies have shown up to 30% of the difference in miles per gallon (MPG) is due to driving habits alone." It goes on to list certain ways you could save carbon. So even if you are not sure you can decrease your carbon footprint, there is probably a way to decrease it.

I think that acknowledging and learning about your carbon footprint and the actions that impact it the most is something that is very important for all global citizens to do.  But it is not just enough to calculate your carbon footprint.  You have to be willing to change things in your lifestyle for the greater good of the planet and of people around the world.  One of the actions I would definitely be willing to change would be to take public transit, bike, or walk whenever I need to get somewhere.  This would be a little bit of a challenge because buses and subways don't go everywhere in the city, unlike a car would be able to.  It would also mean it would take longer to get to places if I would ride a bike or walk, instead of getting a ride in a car.  Then again, there are pros when making these changes.  For example, biking, walking, or taking public transit would be a lot cheaper than driving a car, especially here in Vancouver, where gas prices are through t he roof.  Not only would biking and walking benefit the environment, it would help keep me active and healthy.
