Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

I think that the best way to reduce one's carbon footprint easily is to use other forms of transportation. For starters, one can simply carpool with another going to the same location, and that already can reduce your carbon footprint. Not just will you be reducing your carbon footprint, but you may also get to your destination faster, as many freeways have lanes dedicated only to carpooling. The fewer cars on the road, the better for the environment. So much pollution is caused through production, maintenance, and other needs of the car, that it totally destroys the environment.

Public transportation is another option available to people for travel through out a city. If you plan to go shopping for example , at a nearby mall, one can take the city bus instead of travelling in one's own car. This reduces one's  carbon footprint, but carbon is still produced. And even if the bus does not take you right next to where you want to go, you can always ride a bike or walk there.

One can also fly less, and stay home more often. Planes produce huge amounts of carbon. It is o ften better in this case to use programs like Skype or Facetime instead. However, if it is necessary for you to fly, it is best to fly economy class, as the total carbon is spread out among more people.

I think that taking such measures would be simple to do, and extremely helpful for the environment. I don't think that we will ever be able to complete eliminate the use of fossil fuels and the like, unless a much better alternative appears, but by taking certain actions, we can at least reduce its usage.
