All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Energy cut-back
Everyone on the planet contributes to climate change because each of us gives off our own levels of CO2. This is called your carbon footprint and some peoples footprint is larger or smaller than other peoples. Each country has their own average carbon footprint so someone can see if they are above their average for where they live. The United States has one of the highest average CO2 out take per person. With 16.6 tonnes, which is sad since I’m from the U.S.
But there are plenty of things people can do to decrease their carbon footprint. Since using energy gives off the most CO2 you should focus on decreasing the amount of energy you use. Nothing too fancy like getting solar panels (though it would be much appreciated) needs to be done. Just do little things like turning off lights when you leave a room and when you're done using any electronic device shut it down. Also if that electronic device is fully charged unplug it. This will decrease the amount of energy you waste. Another thing is since transportation gives off the second most CO2, try and use better means of t ransportation. Like if you live really close to your school ,walk or maybe even bike there instead of driving. It’s easy to help the environment and even if it is a small act, every little thing counts.
