Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

People are starting to realize how their actions are negatively impacting our world, but how can that change? It's hard to switch from a lifestyle of wants into a life of trying to only take what you need. Most people would think that that's impossible, but it's not as crazy as it seems. Like many things that need effort like trying to get fit, once you start something, it'll become natural in no time. To change anything in your lifestyle, baby steps are enough. There's no need to go cold turkey, although if you can, that'd work too, but little by little, you'll find yourself doing things like they're normal. Some baby steps you can take are taking shorter showers, turning off the lights, and making sure that you recycle. For many people, showers are longer than necessary, so by reducing the time, you can save the amount of energy you use for the hot water. Taking shorter showers aren't as hard as it seems once you realize that you've just been thinking random thoughts while in there. Lights are everywhere, so it's normal to just leave them on, but that wastes a lot of e nergy over the long term. It's simple to just remind yourself to turn off the lights when you leave a room, so this would be a simple step to take. A lot of the time when we need to throw something away, we know that we can recycle it, but the bin is too far, so it ends up in the trash. It's a huge waste, and some things can even just be reused by someone else. If you just put it in the landfill, it's useless. A small step to take would be to walk the extra five meters to the proper bin and over time, you'll find that it's a much more logical way to do things.
