Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

What can I do?

After I calculated my carbon footprint I realised how much my transportation is polluting. I live 10km away from my school, so I have to drive that distance at least two times a day. Then I have to go to my hobbies and to meet my friends, It is pretty easy to decrease my transportation, I could for example not go home while I'm waiting, I could just walk to the library and wait there. My second highest was the food. My and my family don't throw out a lot of food, and we give most of the food we don't eat to our dog and hens. But it is always room for improvement. We could try to organize our fridge to always be aware of what we have so we could determine from that what we have to buy that week.

I completely agree with you. When I calculated my carbon footprint, I was so surprised to see that the way I commute to different locations has a huge impact on the amount of CO2 being released into the atmosphere. In fact, in my calculations, the total amount of C02 released because of the way I use and take transportation was significantly the highest number out of the other categories which were, home, food, and purchases. I also noticed that flying to other countries and taking the plane contributed the most to my CO2 emissions. A possible idea to lessen carbon footprints around the world when it comes to transportation could be using more bikes instead of cars. Sometimes it is hard for people to go around to different places in bikes so another option could be sharing car rides with friends. I addition, another idea could be sharing bikes just like sharing cars. When sharing bikes you could have a card that you scan which tells you how many miles you have ridden. There could be a system where when you reach a certain amount of miles, you could get a free car or trai n ride. This might motivate people to try and share more rides with people so that it can lessen everyone's carbon footprint.

You don't have to make any true sacrifices, it might be a good idea to carpool to school to cut down on your carbon footprint.
