All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
My Pledge To Help My Environment
After seeing my calculations, I really want to focus on helping the environment. One thing to start with is walking to places that are close to me rather than asking for a car ride there. Also, waking up early so I am ready to leave for school with my brother and sister rather than asking my mom to give me a separate ride there. Asking my mom to give me a ride at a later time can effect are environment because then she has to drive me when my brother and sister can which is better because then we will be carpooling there. There are many ways to help our environment that are related to transportation but I also want to focus on not eating so much meat because eating meat can be especially bad for the environment. I am not saying I am going to give up meat completely, I just want to work on eating as little meat as possible. Overall, there are many ways to help keep our environment a healthy place and I intend in working on helping it one step at a time.
I totally agree with you, it's not necessarily about completely changing your life so your carbon emissions are as close to zero as possible. It is much more about everyone contributing and being mindful of their emissions. If everybody knows what they are putting into the atmosphere it is more likely they will at least try to be more green. Just things like walking places more and carpooling with your friends can be not only healthy for you, but they can go a long way in our atmosphere recovering and our climate returning to its original, natural state.
I also have wanted to carpool, but on top of that I also want to look into more energy efficient vehicles. I know for a fact that different cars and trucks release a different amount of carbon into the atmosphere. Even if I couldn't carpool everyday for various reasons I would find comfort that my car wasn't releasing as much CO2 as other vehicles on the road.
