Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Now It's Time for Action >

Every little change counts

Most people would think that one person changing their habits and behaviour in their community would not change the environment and climate change. That's not what you and I think. In fact, we know that even the smallest change can make a big difference. That's why I will try harder to keep the lights on for the least amount of time possible. When no one is in a room I will close the lights, and when it's not really dark. My family keeps the lights on longer then we actually need them, even when it's bright out well still have he lights on so that's something I will try to change. Turning off the lights when they're not needed may seem small but it will definitely have a positive impact on the environment.

I agree Anita! The small things that we do, do end up making a big difference in the end. Good thinking! I think that if each of us cut down 10% of our energy usage in our homes and even in our cars and the outside we can make a big difference and it won't even effect our lives besides the air around us being cleaner and the world life expectancy longer!

I agree that even the smallest action takes our society one step closer to making a change. If everyone cuts down on how long they shower or even just remembering to turn off the lights when they leave a room, it can make a big difference in their community, which will lead to a worldwide impact. Every goal needs a foundation, so one small step can lead to a greater action that everyone can take part in.

I agree that the smallest changes are big changes. If everybody chips in a little bit then the atmosphere would be much cleaner. I think that most people don't realize this and it is a big reason why climate change is occurring. Even I will leave the water running when I brush my teeth and think even if I stopped it nothing would change. But if everybody did something small to help the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the air it would have a huge impact on helping the problem. Hopefully people are able to realize this and change something they do in their life to help the earth and it's future.

I agree that the little things count and can create change. At my house, I always turn off lights when I don't need them, or I just use natural light. I also only plug in my phone charger when I need it plugged in and as well, I don't leave my water running when I brush my teeth, it's something small, but can be impactful

I totally agree that one person can change the environment by changing their own habits. The smallest things can change the environment dramatically. If you cut down showers, reuse your things and helping the earth it will help the environment.  I try to not use the shower as long so I can conserve the water. It might not seem like it is a lot, but in the long run, it saves a lot of water that could be either used for something else. Using public transportation or carpooling can also save the environment by not using more cars than needed. This can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced by the cars and ultimately help save the environment. Lastly, not buying as many products can help the environment. I try to reuse most of my things and not buy as many things. Producing products hurt the environment.
