All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Change Begins With You
I believe that one of the biggest challenges in trying to change the environment is that individuals underestimate the importance of their actions. Out of the 7.6 billion people on this Earth, countless people may think that because they are only one person, their actions can never make a difference. It may be easy to feel insignificant and powerless in the huge scope of our society, but today is the time to take action. Change starts with every individual, and if everybody does what they can to reduce personal emissions, we can cut our global emissions to a fraction of what they once were. Your actions matter, and you can make a positive change in the world!
You can check out the interactive program “Carbon Story” under the link http://globalcarbonatlas.org/?q=outreach to explore what the next 100 years might look like depending on our decisions. This really puts into perspective how much better or worse the environment could get, and it helped me fully realize how important it is that we take action now. Some things you can do to reduce CO₂ emissions are as simpl e as choosing to walk, bike, or carpool, buying locally-grown produce, and reusing bags and bottles. I believe that if everyone makes an effort to reduce their carbon footprint, we will make meaningful changes. For the sake of our planet, our lives, and our posterity, change begins with YOU.
