Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Now It's Time for Action >

Do something!!!

I was surprised by the results I got after calculating my carbon footprint. I've never thought that I can release so much carbon dioxide just by traveling. I'm an international student so I have to travel a lot to visit my family every year. However, I realize that I should at least do something in order to protect the environment. Try to take public transportation instead of taking an Uber, save water or just turn off the light when you leave. Every single action can make a change. Now it's time for our action. Let's save our world together!

https://www.eea.europa.eu/media/infogra … sport/view There is a graph of CO2 emissions of different ways of transportations. We can find out that taking a plane can lead to the dramatical increase of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. That's why I think we should all try to commute by walking or biking in our daily life to reduce the CO2 emissions.

Yes, I too was surprised by my carbon emissions caused through transportation. But in addition to carpooling with others, biking, and walking, there are many other ways to decrease your collective carbon footprint. Examples of this are switching to a cleaner source of energy (something other than gas or fuel oil), using LED light bulbs, buying organically and locally grown ingredients, and decreasing your water usage. I could continue listing ways to decrease your carbon emissions, but as a minor in a household, it’s rather difficult to accomplish a number of these things. Something we can do, is spread awareness of the problem itself.
There are many ways to spread awareness, but one of the most productive, is being taught something in a classroom setting. If your teacher isn’t already doing a unit on climate change, it might be beneficial to suggest one. The Literacy and Energy Awareness Network has an extensive set of classroom resources available. Furthermore, most schools want to be more environmentally aware, but aren’t sure how to make the changes necess ary. Suggesting a compost bin for the school garden (should the school have one) would be a productive way to encourage students to lessen their waste.
Half the problem of climate change is its ambiguity. The uncertainty that it’s a problem in this day in age lessens the likeliness that people will do something to change it. But climate change is a problem, and if we make some true changes in the way we are using energy and producing carbon dioxide, we can fix it. If everyone were to make the small, environmentally-conscious changes suggested above, we could strongly decrease the magnitude of our carbon footprint.

Acting and doing are in many ways a like. My total footprint is 25,094. When I first saw this I was very surprised. I researched some ways that I and that everyone can be “doing” their part in helping reduce their carbon footprint.
One category that surprised me the most was that my home produces 16,538 of CO2 a year while the average in my region in 3,757. I need to fix this, one thing that I did not do but will do now is instead of sleeping my computer at night I will shut it down. This is an easy step that will lower the energy bill and help the environment. As I started to read I found out more about how these little things like leaving a light on for a few minutes when not in the room all these little simple tasks that we do not do adds up. With not enough funding and government power going towards climate change it is the people's job to help fight climate change.
East steps that I found helpful I found at https://cotap.org/reduce-ca rbon-footprint/…This website walks you through showing easy steps you can learn and then get in the habit of shutting your computer down for example instead of letting it run.

Amen to the part about taking action. Something that I'm trying to do is find ways to entertain myself that don't involve the use of electronics. You see, I usually spend my free time watching videos or playing computer games. The amount of CO2 released from my console being on and my phone having to always be recharged  can't be good for the environment. So, instead of spending a lot of free time with electric devices, I'm going to start spending more time outside.
