All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.
Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?
Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!
Now It's Time for Action >
Climate Change is not just a Statistic - It's real and it's here
I was very shocked by the results of my carbon footprint survey. I knew I would be above average, but I did not expect to be as above average as I was. My total carbon footprint was around 18,672, and in the area the average footprint is 9, 727. From the other comments I have read on the discovery board, many others were surprised by their footprints as well. Now that I know my footprint, I have to remind myself that surprise isn't going to reverse or slow down climate change. Real action is required in order to slow down global warming. A million people knowing they are harming the environment and not doing anything is worse than a single person actively attempting to reduce their carbon footprint. In fact, I think that public opinions and conversations about global warming are exceedingly hypocritical. Knowing you harm the environment more than you need to is a first step. In order to make a real concrete difference, change your actions. Getting a theoretical number does not make your carbon footprint smaller. Action does.
