Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Several people (including myself) are not ready to completely change their lives for the sake of the environment.  However, I do think that calculating my carbon footprint was a good first step because now I am very aware of my impact on the world and this awareness is a good motivator for change.
Simple things we do everyday contribute to this footprint of ours, so being more aware of them can help us stop.  For example, we can hold on to our empty soda can until we find a recycling bin instead of being lazy and just throwing it away in a nearby trashcan for convenience.  Maybe next time we go to the store, we can be aware of the carbon footprint and remember to bring reusable bags.  Some stores even give small discounts to those who bring their own bags as a way to motivate people to reduce waste.  The last example is that we can reuse plastic water bottles a few times before throwing them away, and when we do throw them away, we recycle them.
In conclusion, awa reness of how we affect the environment is very important because it motivates us to change our behaviors for the better, and even small initial steps have a bigger impact than you may think.

I enjoyed reading about your perspective on how simple things can slowly grow and impact the environment in an either positive and negative way. I also agree with your thinking on how baby steps are needed instead of completely changing one's lifestyle, and on being included in this calculator will give us more awareness on what simple, everyday actions can impact the world. Thank you for your insightful comment.

I think this is a very valid and true point. Doing this evaluation on my own carbon footprint put things into perspective for me and my impact on the environment. Personally, I'm not a very "green" and environmentally friendly person compared to some others. After calculating my carbon footprint, I've decided to try to at least make small changes to my lifestyle to hopefully help the environment, as mentioned in the initial post above.
