Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

How Can We Make A Difference

_Beth_

There may be people who are very willing to change and reduce their carbon footprint, but what about those who are ignorant to the problem? It is not only important to change your mindset about the things you do daily, but also helping others see just what harm they are doing to the environment. We can take small steps to a cleaner environment; the first step being gain awareness of your carbon footprint and knowing how you can help. Personally, I want to start by not using as much electricity. For example, turning off lights and unplugging devices that are not being used. One thing that is harder to change is how much of my carbon footprint is because of transportation. Others may struggle with the same thing because they commute to school/work far from their home. The easy answer would be to get an electric car, but it's not very practical to some people.

It may be very difficult to make a difference because even as more become aware of it, there are still people and factories that do not consider making a change because they don't believe it will make a difference o r it is not practical. It would be better if we could have more of a platform to gain people's awareness and find those who would be willing to join the effort. Do you have anymore ideas about how it can be easier to make a difference?

I agree that spreading awareness is one small yet important step everyone can take to help lead to a cleaner environment.  Not using as much electricity is a good goal, but I encourage you to make that goal more specific so that you can follow it better.  For example, set a certain amount of time you will turn on the lights in your house at a time.
