Now It's Time for Action!

All of you have calculated your emissions and you have surely discovered the unexpectedly high impact of some of your behaviors (eating meat, flying to a sunny destination, etc.) on your total footprints.

Are there any behaviors that you are really willing to change or to improve for the sake of the environment? What challenges do you encounter or think you will encounter while trying to change these things? What help, support, and insights from others would make your life easier with these new behaviors?

Let's discuss these issues and make our pledges here!

Now It's Time for Action >

Don't trow your trash irresponsably!

NicoletaSimion612

Sometimes, we see people that clean after they use a space, even if they don t live there or other things, and I m really happy that these people have this responsability and they take care of what they do. Otherwise, there are irresponsable people that leave the trash in every place they visit, because they think other people or some employee will clean, and that s not ok, because it is their responsability. I think that just by paying attention and taking action, you can change something and make a move, also, little by little, you can make the world a better place.

I agree with you! I have seen so many people carelessly toss a piece of trash on the floor.  It may seem insignificant, but imagine if every person in the world did that.  The earth would be a wasteland in a matter of months.  It is irresponsible and discourteous for a person to litter.  It could make a big impact to speak up about this issue and possibly even pick up after people who litter.

I agree with you, waste is a huge problem in our society today. In the Bay Area almost everywhere there are three different trash cans. One for recycling, one for composting, and one for regular waste however many people disregard them and throw their trash away in the incorrect bins. First, this is a huge issue because throwing waste into recycling or throwing non compostable items into compost means the whole bin is contaminated and therefore are discarded as regular trash. By doing this, society is adding the colossal amount of waste that humans produce. Just by being more mindful about trash disposal, society can greatly reduce the amount of waste we produce. This will decrease the amount of fossil fuels emitted into the atmosphere and therefore reduce the rising levels of Carbon Dioxide. According to Eureka Recycling, over 50% of what we throw away can be recycled and our waste represents 36.7% of all U.S. greenhouse gas. This makes it more necessary to recycle and compost more than ever because as long as we continue to generate mass amounts of waste, the faster gr eenhouse gases will be emitted into our atmosphere. Although energy is taken from landfills, “many studies have shown that most of the methane gas is released before landfills even begin to capture it”. This means that methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas, continues to be realized into the atmosphere from our waste in negative ways. In order to prevent this problem from continuing to occur or even growing larger, we can be more conscientious by always throwing trash away, composting, and recycling.
