What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Hunger And Poverty Are Related Issues
A common, often altruistic, theme amongst many is to be able to solve world hunger via some method that may produce more food. However, often missed is the relationship between poverty and hunger. Hunger is an effect of poverty and poverty is largely a political issue.
I didn't know that!!
I didn't either
I knew what you have stated, but you gave me a better understanding of hunger and poverty.
What you said about hunger, poverty, and politics being related was really interesting to me. Today in one of my classes at school, we discussed another topic not related to poverty or hunger, but somehow someone made an interesting observation on the topic that had to do with a cycle. I'm starting to see a pattern in the main global issues in the world today. These problems and issues that we have tend to occur in some sort of cycle or circle.
While this observation is useless in solving world hunger and poverty, it does lead me to wonder: is there some way we can interrupt and stop the cycles before they get out of control? Like you said, hunger is an effect of poverty, and poverty is a political issue. So where do the people who seek the solution to this problem jump in? Do they try to sway the politicians to pass laws to help end poverty, or help get more food to hungry people around the world? Where would these problem solvers start? Should they instead try to help people living in poverty by traveling to countries impacted severely by it and trying to reach out to the people there? Or should they try to travel the world with an organization looking to feed people who suffer from starvation? Although the cycle is inevitable with these issues, the question is- where do we try to step in and help?
Sure, it's a bit of a guess and check strategy with solutions to solve the issues that trouble our world today, such as hunger and poverty, but we have to try something to help rather than nothing. Perhaps the issue is so severe that we shouldn't even attempt to make a plan to solve it, we should just get out into the world and do our best to make a difference. And of course, there's the issue with our climate change. How can we transport food to starving countries without using planes and dumping tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere? Yet another issue to consider while trying to solve one. Maybe what we need to worry about is not how we solve the problem, but getting out there and trying our best to reach a solution while making a difference.
Hunger and poverty are very related. I live in a third world country and see it everyday; a lack of middle-class, passing from the stone age to rocket age in a range of a 100 meters. The filth and the dirt, the lack of safe food due to economical issues in a country that is rich but overrun by corruption. I live in Ghana at the moment, and the country has a cholera epidemic, although cholera does not come near the wealthy is has reached endemic status in the slums like: Nima, airport slum, Tema and etc. Cholera is transmitted through urine and defecation in nutrition products or water. Poverty allows for filth to build up in areas and contaminate the food sickening many people. Hunger prevails in deserted countries like Sudan. War prevails, rebels are in control, and drought occupy the country. With no wealth the country suffers and millions die of starvation. Poverty affects food in different ways, either through contamination or lack of food.
