What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Vegetarian is the Way to Go
By re-calculating my carbon footprint, I learned that by simply removing meat (especially beef) from my diet, I could reduce my carbon footprint by 1967 kg! I think eating less or no meat is one of the most practical things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Not only is it a lot easier to do than other reducers, it also has great health benefits! It takes a huge amount of work to get meat from the animals to our plate. A very large amount of land and resources goes into raising, tending to, and producing food for the animals, Not to mention that some animals themselves produce large amounts of methane. Therefore, cutting back on meat consumption will greatly help the environment.
