What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Vegetarians and their Impact
It is important to watch what you eat. I learned that meat had a very big impact on my carbon footprints. According to the Nutrition Action Health Letter, for every serving of beef we eat, more than five pounds of greenhouse gasses are released into the environment. That includes gases that come from growing the animal feed and from the manure and methane emissions that beef cattle produce. By simply having a salad instead of a hamburger, we can reduce our carbon footprint. Not only is vegetarian the more earth efficient option, but it is also the healthier one! On Sept. 13, 2015, Principal Chief Bill John Baker announced that the Cherokee Nation will overhaul its environmental codes and policies rooted in Native American culture.
"Cherokees have long considered the impact of our actions on generations to come -- a philosophy grounded in responsibility and sustainability," Baker said during the Cherokee National Holiday. Cherokees are a great example of how people today should live. Native tribes arguably were the first ecologists in the Americas. Tribes took only from M ,,,,other Earth what was necessary to survive. Natives used all parts of the animal, including for food, clothing and fashion tools. It was out of necessity, and it was grounded in Native spirituality. I think we should enforce these policies. This would help alleviate world hunger by both saving the environment from overuse leading to desertification, and leaving enough food for the people living in poverty. Let's follow the examples of the Cherokees. We can start by eating less meat. It is as simple as that!

I think that going vegetarian would be a great option to start reducing our carbon footprints as a community. Eating less meat and eating more vegetables would help a lot, but we do not necessarily have to stop eating meat and become vegetarian, I mean, this would be the best option out of all, but there are a lot of people who are not willing to leave meat behind and become vegetarian. I agree that we should reinforce the policies and codes, it could help a lot.
Hi everyone, I think that the people that are being vegetarian right now are doing something good for their health and the environment, because going vegetarian has a lot of good things to come, but I think that more people need to become vegetarian so there could be more good changes in the world, also it contributes to the animal species so they can live more than getting extinct or getting killed.
I think that going vegetarian would be a good choice to reduce our carbon footprint, but it's not necessary to stop eating meat because our body also need fat to survive. I mean eating less meat can protect the animals for getting killed either.
