Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Limit

Each individual person should have a limit to the amount of food they can eat. It is a true problem when you see some people starving to death, while others are suffering from obesity. If we enforced the rule that each person only gets enough food to live off of comfortably, then we could end world hunger.

This seems like a good idea, but it could cause lots of problems. For example, some people naturally have bigger appetites than others, even though they may not be obese. There could be food guidelines encouraged based on age and gender. However, in some cases these might not be accurate guidelines, because based on how much you prefer to eat the guidelines may or may not be accurate because of personal preference and needs. This might even cause malnutrition in some in individuals, because the guidelines are not accurate for them. But, it would be good if healthier eating habits and living a healthier lifestyle were encouraged more in schools and by society.

I agree that there should be limits. If only there was a way to calculate how much each person could eat. Age difference is a big factor in how much each person eats. If we start a limit in the new generation, then they can easily adapt and eventually the whole human population would be on this limit. But would we really be able to have a limit in the whole world? We could start off  having just the United States follow this limit and then ship out food to underdeveloped countries who need food. Hopefully we can have the rest of the world follow this limit to extend the carrying capacity of our human population. Humans would no longer be obese or too skinny.

A good idea but there is a lot of limited and unseen problem. And only we can change it by change the laws and specific ideas. With the working in a period of time this might be help though.
