Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Some thoughts of saving food

effi

All of us know that a large number of people in the world have no enough food, but actually almost no one around me are saving food. It is too hard for all of us to reduce the amount of food that we eat everyday, so what is easier to do is not to waste food. Some of the people that I know don't waste any food, at least, but some of them do. Usually, they don't finish all of the food that they pay for. Here in my country, nobody blames these people, because they have paid for the food. I don't like to see people wasting food, but I have not told them it is wrong, ever, because I don't want to break the nice relationship between us. However, I really need to persuade them not to waste food, I will try to do it in the future.

I think that people just aren't sure of how much they can eat before they get or order their food. The best way to approach this is to tell them to offer it to someone less fortunate than them on their way home. That way you aren't wasting food and you are giving it to the hungry. It will really brighten up the receiver's day and hopefully the person you tell this to realizes that and keeps doing it whenever they order too much food.
