Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

How to Reduce Food Waste

katyasusa

Nearly one third of food all over the world is wasted.  In America as much as 40% of food is wasted every day! There are things we can do to limit this waste. I think it is unrealistic to say that no one should waste their food because obviously food will go bad. But what you can do when food goes bad is set up a compost for food outside your house. You can bury your scraps in your yard for nutrients for the soil. Another thing the people of America can do to reduce food waste is simply buy enough food to satisfy you for the week and do that each week. You can start by making a meal plan and planning out each day of the week what you will have for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and buy only what you need. It is simple things like this that we can do to help our environment.

I totally agree! It's great how you pointed out the obvious fact about food going bad, and the compost bin suggestion is a great way to solve that problem.
