Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food wastes in real issue

American throw away an estimated 25% of the food they bring home according to Food Shift. At the mean time, hundreds of thousands of people starving to death in the other corners of the world. This just does not make sense. Not even considering how to solve starvation else where, but we really need to learn HOW TO BUY THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF FOOD WE NEED.
Advise: try to buy less than you think you might need. It always turn out that your estimate before enlarged how much you need.

i completely agree. We either need to learn portion control, or compost the unwanted food.

According to http://www.fao.org/docrep/x0262e/x0262e05.htm , there is 2700 calories of food per person per day produced annually. There is enough food for everyone, as long as people figure out an efficient enough way to transport it to needier areas.
