Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

I agree, I just started doing that about a few months ago. It truly allows you to think before throwing out food. Even when the leftover food isn't finished, I give the food to my dog instead of just simply throwing it out. Wasting food is one of the biggest problems in society today, and some corporations package leftover food very well, giving it to homeless people or hungry people. Think before you throw it away! At least compost the food!

I agree with that. Most people throw away lots of their food that they either haven't finished or just doesn't look like it is good. If you haven't finished some food the day before, it is easy to just save it and you can use it for lunch the next day. It helps both the community out and yourself. Since you saved the food, you don't have take the time to make a lunch for the next day.  And since wasting food is a serious problem in our country, re-using the food with greatly solve this problem. But if you do throw away food, put it in the correct bin.

I agree. You can make new recipes with leftovers or bring them to school for lunch. Also make sure to not make more food than you can eat at home, and don't put more on your plate than you know you can eat. If you buy perishable products at the grocery store, make sure that you eat it before it goes bad so that you won't waste it.
