What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Home Gardening and composting
Home gardens are a great idea especially if your family loves to garden. These gardens can produce fruits and vegetables that can easily be prepared at home into many dishes. This is one of the easiest ways to be efficient and lower your carbon footprint. With my family, we grow tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, lettuce, kale and peppers. We also compost in all of the scraps from vegetables. Composting is also very easy to do, even if it's just putting your vegetable scraps and compostables into the compost bin after lunch.
I completely agree with you Katie. Home/Local gardening is one of the best ways to reduce CO2 emissions. According to the Green Girls, "Plants help prevent global warming because they take carbon dioxide out of the air to make energy for themselves." Plants are also good because they provide the oxygen humans need to breathe.
