Food & Hunger

What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?

925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food & Waste

I learned my food waste was an average amount. I also learned a lot of people buy their meals out. More people should bring lunch to school or work. When people eat, there is a lot of food wasted, so people should eat smaller portions. If this occurred, there would be more food for everyone.

i agree with Kyle. when we are hungry we tend to state that we are "starving" so we get larger proportions of food then what we would usually get and we end up wasting all the food that we didn't eat. so if we could be true to ourselves and how much we really wanted to eat then we would have less food waste and more food for other people in other places

But our food waste doesn't go to other countries, companies just throw away their food they don't give it away, waste is a bad thing, but we should also come up with ways to turn that food waste into something beneficial

I agree with Zack about turning that extra food waste into something beneficial. One way that could work is turning that food waste into compost. This would help enrich plants and give them more nutrients. This makes us more healthy and limits the amount of waste put into landfills.
