What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food and waste
Many parents and children go without eating everyday while we are sitting here throwing away food. We obviously don't take a meal and plan on wasting it, but a majority of the type we don't finish what we eat. We can change that with a few little things. We could try taking smaller portions, so if it comes down to it we will be wasting smaller amounts of food. We can try using the items in our houses or giving them to someone who will use them before they expire and we have to throw them out. We could also remember how to sort our trash. A lot of the time we don't think where our food scraps and trash is going. We just throw it in the closet or first bin we see. Not only are we wasting food but we are harming our environment, But by being a little more cautious we can cut down on all of these things.
I completely agree. One of the biggest causes of the excessive amount of CO2 in our atmosphere is the amount of trash being burned each year. If we really tried, we could go many meals without throwing anything in the garbage. I also really like your point about how we can take smaller portions so that if we don't finish it, we are wasting less food, and if we do, we can always just go get more.
I agree with this as well, Stella. Not only is it a waste of food and a bigger CO2 expansion in our living space, it's a waste of money. People all over the world are starving. This wouldn't be a problem if all the food that was wasted every year, every month was actually eaten by those who need it most. The less food we waste, the more food we can have for those who can't afford it. In fact, there should be a bigger and more popular system around schools and home life where the food that is good and not wasted and not contaminated goes to those around us who are starving, not just in your local area.
I completely agree that lots of people waste foods more than they actually eat it. There are goods in other countries that need those foods and we just throw it away.
