What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Not Wasting Food
The average food waste in America is about 133 billion lbs out of the 430 billion lbs of food produced in America. That's about 31% of America's food wasted and rotting in our landfills per year. That's enough food to feed Earth's entire population! Many people complain about how the government isn't proving enough food and resources to those who are facing hunger when the government isn't really the problem; but the people are. We continue to profess about how horrible it is that children and families are barely getting any food, if at all, on their plates when those who are fortunate enough to get a hearty meal are wasting most of it. This is one of the main reasons why people who are suffering from starvation aren't getting the food they need. If those who are fortunate enough to get food on their plates everyday gave those in need their leftovers and produce that they don't want, this could help to solve the problem of hunger. Also only taking the amoun t of food that you're going to eat is a good way to help create less food waste which usually just ends up in the landfill.
I agree with how you pointed out that if people can put food on their own plates, they can help give food, like their leftovers, to those without it. I also think it is a good idea to try and be cautious about the food you are taking to cut down on waste.
