What did you learn about dietary choices from using the footprint calculator? Now imagine that you could translate what you learned into an effective societal policy on food- what would it be? And how would this policy effect the need to alleviate world hunger?
925 million people on earth do not have enough to eat according to the FAO [Food and Agricultural Organization]. That's almost 1 in 7 inhabitants of our planet!

Food & Hunger
Many countries have a shortage of food that is hunger all around the world. I feel that most developed countries, especially America, can help spread food around the world. First, we can decrease food waste by reducing the amount we can buy from stores. A lot of the food you can buy from these places provide too much for how much it costs and most of the time you never use it all. Reducing the amount of food purchasable by how much, on average, people don’t use will help a lot just in America. This food can be used for other needs in the country or be sent around the world if it’s possible. Either way it would create a smarter use of food and a much more efficient method of providing food to the average person. This can be the same for many places where you can eat out as they usually provide too much for how much you pay.
You can help reduce the amount of food wasted too by using up all your food before you restock over and over. Try not to buy food that you might not use and end up throwing out and eat leftovers from when you eat out. People throw out more food than th ey realize and being a bit more cautious about what you eat and how much you buy can help the world.
What happens when we throw out food is that it ends up in landfills most of the time. The food then decomposes and releases methane, which is a greenhouse gas and these gases contribute to global warming. You might realize how being a bit more conservative with how you treat food can help both you and the world.
